Blue Light Modulation from Freestanding Guided-Mode Resonant GaN Grating.

11 November 2015

Abstract

Freestanding subwavelength GaN grating offers a potential as an optical resonator and modulates the optical characteristics. In this paper, the freestanding guided-mode resonant (GMR) GaN grating is fabricated with a double-side process. GaN membrane with controllable thickness is achieved by backside thinning technique. It provides an essential way to realize the modulation of blue emission from GaN material via GMR grating. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of GMR GaN grating experimentally present the modulation of blue light, which is in consistent with both numerical simulation and reflectivity measurement. This work prvoids an interesting way to the light modulation of GaN-based blue emitting devices.
