The International Day of Light is a dedicated, global initiative that places focus on the intrinsic role that light plays in our daily lives.
From photobiological safety in digital displays and improved internet connectivity through fibre optics, to advancing renewable solar energy and enhancing machine vision; light based science is the foundation of key enabling technologies of the future.
This annual event takes place on the 16th of May in dedication to Theodore Maiman, the physicist and engineer responsible for the first successful operation of the laser on this day back in 1960 - just 15 years before Bentham Instruments was founded.
Sharing the principles and core values of this unique initiative, Bentham continues to work with research and educational institutes, government bodies and global industry leaders alike, developing the innovative optical metrology measurement solutions behind some of the most ground breaking technologies available today.
We are proud to be official sponsors of the 2019 International Day of Light and encourage all those within the industry to become involved and join us in emphasising the importance of research, the need for investment and the necessity to promote careers within optics and photonics fields.
