Bentham Instruments Limited is seeking an exceptional talent to take up the newly formed role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Reporting to the joint CEOs, the COO will provide operational management of the company, delivering excellence in our manufacturing and services business and building the framework for growth. This role would particularly suite a high calibre individual with sound operations management experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Maintain control of diverse business operations: finance, human resources, infrastructure, governance and resource planning
  • Work with managing directors to realise strategic goals
  • Work closely with department managers to shape highly efficient operations and scalability for growth
  • Lead on risk management and mitigation
  • Lead on business planning and performance monitoring
  • Develop, implement and communicate policies, systems and procedures
  • Assist in monitoring, developing and negotiating key contracts and agreements
  • Ensure best practise HR policies and processes are developed, implemented and monitored
  • Oversee the finance team, to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions • Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions and auditors
  • Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed
  • Prepare and manage operational and capital expenditure budgets
  • Coordinate audits and proper filing
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all business functions
  • Develop and implement a system for tracking and reporting on the progress of strategic plan implementation
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly/quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Deliver and implement plans for growth

Experience / skills required:

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant subject
  • At least 5 years’ experience of a managerial role within operations/service delivery within manufacturing (COO, Head of operations, or similar)
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern management and administration including governmental policy, financial analysis, project management, personnel management and business development
  • A demonstrable track record of successfully driving operational change and technical development
  • Significant experience of manufacturing operations alongside your general business management skills
  • The ability to develop and implement long-term plans and programs and to evaluate accomplishments
  • Be entrepreneurial, expansion focused and with the passion to build an outstanding organisation
  • Be an experienced and efficient leader
  • Be passionate about the health and safety of employees
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and the formation of business strategy
  • Aptitude in decision making and problem solving
