The 262 is a general purpose GP-IB (IEEE 488) programmable relay unit that further enhances the wide range of system configurations available with the 200 Series. It incorporates eight programmable relays grouped into two sets.

Signal switching - 4 relays, each with an individual BNC input socket and a common BNC output socket. For example, these inputs allow additional detectors or other inputs such as temperature or high voltage monitors to be connected to a 228A analogue to digital converter.

Utility switching - 4 independent single-pole changeover relays, each with its own front panel connector. Typical applications include switching of additional Swing Away Mirror (SAM) assemblies, auto-calibration lamps or any other external device.

Trigger - A single input is included which enables an external switch to be sensed over the GP-IB, i.e. to begin a measurement.

Features
All of the relays can be operated from front panel push-button switches once the “return to local” button has been pressed.
Front panel LEDs indicate the status of each relay and when the unit is under “remote” (GP-IB) control.
Jumper links on the circuit board allow either end of the utility relays to be connected to +12V and 0V respectively accommodating two wire operation of external SAMs (Solenoid operated swing away mirror) or other relays. Each relay can switch up to 0.5A d.c. For switching of mains voltages an external secondary relay would be required.
Each of the signal switching relays are single-pole changeover devices with multiplexing control logic to ensure only one input is connected to output BNC. Provision is made on the circuit board for the non-selected lines to be tied to 0V via resistor or wire link. Additionally, provision is made on the circuit board for an 8-pin DIL integrated circuit dual op-amp to be fitted
Resistors and links can be fitted to configure appropriate inverting/non-inverting amplifier circuit. Jumper links allow signal input channels 3 and 4 to be routed through this customer-configurable circuitry.
